Can cannabis help with premenstrual syndrome

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a condition that most women who are fertile experience at some point in their lives. They may also develop premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which is similar to PMS, but in this case the symptoms are more prolonged and severe.

As the campaign for the legalization of cannabis advances and gains more support worldwide, more and more women are turning to cannabis for relief from these symptoms. Perhaps many do not know it, but in fact this practice is not new. Women have historically used cannabis to relieve PMS symptoms.

The oldest reference to the use of cannabis as a treatment for PMS and PMDD comes from the German herb book Kratterbuch written in 1564. In this text Leonhart and Lonicer wrote that “women who bent down because of a disease of the womb stood up again after inhaling the smoke of burning cannabis”.
