Defoliation <b>carries certain risks, but if it is done well it is worth it<\/b>, so it is interesting to know how to carry it out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%9B%B3_What_is_achieved_with_this_technique\"><\/span>\u26f3 What is achieved with this technique?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you do not remove the leaves from certain parts of the plant, the energy of the plant is distributed equally throughout the structure, but of course, those areas not well lit, or where the light doesn&#8217;t penetrate well, can not get to form the buds you can see in the high or clear parts. It is also interesting to make it during the growth to indica or hybrid plants with a lot of vegetative time, <i>since there is a moment when the large leaves shade the new shoots<\/i>, that is a good moment to perform defoliation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pfgreen\">From our point of view, <b>the best time to apply defoliation is during pre-flowering<\/b>, or the following weeks after changing the photoperiod to 12\/12 indoors. You also have to take into account that every time you make a cut to a plant you are opening a door for possible infections, so be careful and do it only where it is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>You <b>only have to remove the largest leaves in case they block the light to the sprouts<\/b>, leaving the branches more visible, aired and illuminated by all its extension. In the following drawing you can see an example:<\/p>\n<p>If you pay attention, you will see that the <b>branches continue having some leaves, just next to the buds where the flowers will come out<\/b>, but the biggest ones have been removed, those which the petiole comes out right in the knots of the main trunk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%93%B2_When_is_it_not_convenient_to_perform_defoliation\"><\/span>\ud83d\udcf2 When is it not convenient to perform defoliation?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are times when, due to the vital state of the plants, it is better not to defoliate, since it would not gain yield, on the contrary, it can even be negative. <b>When a plant has deficiencies, plagues, blockages, or some other type of stress, it is not good to remove its leaves<\/b>, because in that state the only thing that is achieved is that it is stressed even more and may even die if its situation is not reversed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pfred\"><b>Nor is it advisable to do it with a very advanced flowering<\/b>, because the plant needs a minimum time to take advantage of the lighting and ventilation gained in the defoliated areas.<\/div>\n<p>Although not everyone agrees, <b>from our point of view it is not good to apply defoliation to normal autoflowering plants<\/b>. There are very dense XXL autos which can improve the production with this technique, but in general with varieties of automatic flowering you do not profit much, and the risk of irreparable damage is higher.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%F0%9F%9A%80_Extreme_defoliation_or_radical_lollipop\"><\/span>\ud83d\ude80 Extreme defoliation or radical lollipop<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are some growers, especially in America, who perform an <b>intense defoliation<\/b>, so much so that they barely leave the tips of the branches intact. This variation of the technique defoliation is also called <a href=\"https:\/\/pevgrow.com\/blog\/en\/techniques-to-prune-the-marijuana-plant\/\">Lollipoping,<\/a> since the plants are <b>shaped like lollipops<\/b>, very similar to excessive low pruning. We are not very fond of doing this, except in certain cases.<\/p>\n<p>Among these exceptions are plants that have been used for a long time as a contribution of cuttings, that is to say, <b>big mother plants<\/b> which are going to go into bloom.
