In this video, Patrick Jones demonstrates how to create a simple solar irrigation system using easily available materials to efficiently water plants.
Hey friends! Welcome to Patrick Jones. Today, I have a short video to show you how to create a solar irrigation system.
For this, we will need:
- A 1 L plastic bottle (it can be from water or soda; we just need to clean it well).
- An 8 L water bottle. Why do I say water and not oil? Because oil will leave residues and we always know it can leave impurities.
- A cutter or a knife.
Once that’s said, we’re going to make a cut on the back of the 8 L bottle right here, and on the 1 L bottle, we’re going to make the cut here. This part will serve as our reservoir. Once that’s done, I’m going to go ahead and make the cut, and I’ll see you in a bit!
As I mentioned, we’re going to take the 8 L bottle, insert the knife, and cut the back. Now, we’re going to do the same thing with the 1 L bottle. Remember, we’re not going to make the cut here; we’re going to make it here.
Alright, dear friends! First of all, we carefully made a hole. We then filled our 1 L bottle with clean water. Now, we are going to gently place the bottle in the hole.
Next, we are going to cover the soil. We’re going to take the 8 L water bottle and place it on top, like this. There you go! We’re going to move it a bit so that it stays securely in place and doesn’t get blown away by the wind.
Now, what are we going to do with that? When the water evaporates, instead of going into the atmosphere, it will be held by the bottle. Once it’s all condensed in this bottle, it will fall into the soil. As a result, the roots of our plant will be able to absorb the water, ensuring our plant will never run out of water.
Oh yes, very important! We’re going to dig it at least 6 to 10 cm deep. Why? That way, we can be sure not to damage the roots of our plant.
This system, as you can see, is recommended for soil cultivation. It works very well, and we save a lot of water with this system. We mustn’t forget that there needs to be a cap on top.
