The 40x40x40mm Rock Wool Cube is the professional standard for starting your crop, designed to give your seeds and cuttings the perfect balance of aeration and moisture they need to explode with life. This inert substrate guarantees a sterile environment, eliminating pathogens from day one and ensuring your genetics develop a robust root system before transplanting.
Ever stare at a pack of expensive seeds or fresh cuttings and feel paralyzed, not knowing exactly how to handle them to ensure they survive? It is common to feel unsure about the moisture levels or the pH, fearing that a small mistake could ruin the potential of your genetics before they even start growing.
It’s a terrible feeling. You plant them hoping for the best, but days pass, and nothing happens—or worse, stems rot and seedlings dampen off. That "bad luck" is usually just a lack of a clear process and the wrong medium, wasting your money and time. Without a structured method, you are essentially gambling with your harvest.
Stop guessing. Using these rock wool cubes follows a precise, almost scientific method that removes the variables. By following the phase-based guide below, you turn propagation into a predictable, successful routine that guarantees healthy plants ready for any system.
Before you even touch the cubes, you need to set up your workspace. Rock wool is naturally alkaline (high pH), so you cannot just use tap water straight from the pipe. Preparation is the secret to success here; if you skip this, your plants will struggle to eat.
Now it is time to condition the cubes. Think of this as "activating" the substrate so it is hospitable for your delicate roots. Do not rush this step.
With your cubes prepped, you are ready to plant. This process works for both seeds and cloning operations.
Once the roots are visible outside the cube, the propagation phase is complete. You must now transplant the cube into your final medium, whether it is a larger rock wool slab, coco coir, or Soil For Cannabis. Do not remove the plant from the cube; plant the entire block to avoid damaging the root ball.
Check the cubes daily during the process. If they feel light, dip the bottom 1cm in pH-balanced water for a few seconds. Never water from the top over the seedling stem, as this can cause rot. Remember, the goal is to make the roots search for water, not to drown them.
No, for propagation, it is always best to use a fresh, sterile cube. Reusing them increases the risk of pathogens and alters the structure, reducing aeration.
This is algae, caused by light hitting the wet wool. It is generally harmless but can compete for nutrients. You can cover the top of the cube with a plastic cover or vermiculite to prevent it.
Usually, no. Rock wool holds water incredibly well. Lift the cube; if it feels heavy, do not water. Overwatering is the number one killer of seedlings in rock wool.
I remember when I first started using rock wool, I treated it like a kitchen sponge. I would soak it and then squeeze it as hard as I could to get the water out. Big mistake. My clones would yellow and die because I had crushed all the air pockets, suffocating the stems. Once I learned to just let them drain naturally and focused heavily on that initial 24-hour pH soak, my success rate went from 50% to basically 100%.
Now, I organize my "Phase 1" the day before I plan to take cuttings. I set up the buckets and let the cubes soak overnight while I clean my scissors and prep the mother plant. By the time I wake up, the cubes are perfectly stabilized and ready to go. It turns a stressful day of cloning into a smooth, meditative process.
