Meet the Round Seedling Pot 8cm (16 units), the ultimate hack for growers who want to skip the drama of transplanting and ensure survival. These biodegradable containers are designed to become part of the soil, meaning you can move your seedlings or clones to their final home without disturbing a single root hair, ensuring explosive growth from day one.

Is transplanting giving you anxiety?

We've all been there: staring at a delicate seedling, sweating bullets because you don't know exactly when or how to move it without killing it. The fear of crumbling the root ball or damaging the taproot is real, and for a beginner, this uncertainty can paralyze your progress.

The consequences of a bad transplant are brutal. You might snap a root, causing the plant to stunt for weeks, or worse, trigger hermaphroditism due to stress. That feeling that "the genetics were bad" is often just a result of a rough transition that could have been avoided.

The solution is simple: don't remove the pot. With these biodegradable pots, the container itself is the vehicle. You simply plant the whole thing, and the roots grow right through it. It turns a high-risk surgery into a simple, foolproof step.

Phase 1: Preparing the ground

Before you even touch a seed, you need to set up the environment. These pots are porous, which is great for oxygen but means they dry out faster than plastic, so preparation is key.

  • Choose your medium: Use a light, airy Soil For Cannabis to fill them. Heavy soils can clog the pores.
  • Prepare the tray: You will need a waterproof surface. Grow Trays are essential here to catch runoff and keep the humidity localized.
  • Hydrate lightly: Pre-moisten your soil slightly before filling the pots to avoid hydrophobia (water repelling) later on.
  • Check the pH: Since these pots contain lime, they help buffer pH, but ensure your water is around 6.0-6.5.

Phase 2: Setting up the product

Getting these pots ready is fast, but doing it right ensures the walls degrade at the correct speed.

  1. Separate carefully: The pots can stick together in the stack. Twist them gently to separate them without tearing the rim.
  2. Fill loosely: Fill the pot with your substrate. Do not pack it down hard; the roots need to push through the walls eventually.
  3. Tap to settle: Give the pot a gentle tap on the table to settle the soil, leaving about 0.5 cm of space at the top for watering.
  4. Arrange: Place them all in your tray before watering to avoid making a mess.

Phase 3: Use / growing step by step

This is where the magic happens. Follow this flow to take your plants from seed to veg without a hiccup.

  1. Sowing: Place your seed or cutting in the center. If you are Cloning, these pots are fantastic for maintaining humidity around the stem.
  2. Initial Watering: Water gently. You will see the pot itself turn dark as it absorbs moisture. This is a good visual indicator of humidity.
  3. Monitoring: Watch the walls of the pot. If they turn light brown, they are dry. Keep them consistently moist (but not soaking) to encourage root penetration.
  4. Root Check: Once you see white root tips poking through the side or bottom of the pot, it is time to move.
  5. The "Transplant": Dig a hole in your final pot (or outdoor soil) the size of this seedling pot.
  6. Planting: Drop the entire pot into the hole. Cover it with soil. Ensure the rim of the biodegradable pot is fully covered by the new soil to prevent it from wicking moisture away from the roots.
  7. Watering in: Water the new medium to bond the two soils together.

Phase 4: Closing, maintenance and learnings

Once the pot is buried, your job with it is done. It will decompose into organic matter over the next few weeks. If you have leftover pots in the pack (since it comes with 16), store them in a dry place. Humidity in the air can start to degrade them if left in a damp grow room.

A key learning for next time: if you found the pots dried out too fast, try burying them slightly deeper in the tray or increasing the ambient humidity. Every grow room is different, and these pots breathe heavily!

Advantages of following this flow instead of improvising

  • Zero Stress: You eliminate the risk of root shock completely.
  • Speed: Transplanting takes seconds, not minutes.
  • Root Health: The air-pruning effect before transplanting creates a denser root ball.
  • Consistency: Every plant gets the exact same start, leading to an even canopy.
  • Eco-Friendly: No plastic waste to throw away later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to remove the bottom of the pot?

No! The roots are strong enough to pierce through the wet material. Removing the bottom defeats the purpose and risks damaging the roots.

How long do they take to decompose?

It depends on the biological activity of your soil, but usually, they break down significantly within a few weeks after being buried.

Can I use them for Autoflowering strains?

Absolutely. In fact, they are the best option for autos, as these strains are very sensitive to transplant stress. This method tricks them into thinking they were never moved.

Why is mold appearing on the outside of the pot?

Don't panic. Since it's organic material (wood fiber), some beneficial fungi might appear due to humidity. It's usually harmless and shows the biodegradation process is ready to start.

Personal Experience of Pevgrow’s CEO (Alan)

I honestly stopped using small plastic cups for germination years ago. For me, the "phase" that changed everything was realizing I could use these 8cm pots for my autoflowering runs. I used to stunt my autos by transplanting them too late, but with these, I just drop them into the final 11L pot as soon as I see the first root tip.

One mistake I made early on was leaving the top rim of this pot exposed to the air after transplanting. It acted like a wick and dried out the root ball. Now, I always make sure to cover the entire biodegradable pot with a thin layer of the new soil. It keeps everything moist and speeds up the breakdown. Simple fix, huge difference.
