The Autopot 2 Pot System is your ticket to professional hydroponic yields without the headache of pumps, timers, or electrical bills. This is a passive, gravity-fed cultivation system designed to water and feed two plants automatically, ensuring they receive the exact amount of nutrient solution they need through wet/dry cycles. It’s the closest thing to putting your grow on "autopilot" while maximizing root health and harvest weight.

Is hydroponics giving you a headache before you even start?

Let’s be real: making the jump from soil to hydro can feel overwhelming. You look at diagrams of active systems and see a nightmare of water pumps, air stones, precise timing schedules, and the constant fear of a power outage ruining your crop. You want the results, but you don't know the correct order of operations to set up a system that won't leak or fail.

The consequences of this confusion are usually disastrous. A pump fails while you're at work, and your roots dry out. You miscalculate the timer, and you get root rot. Or worse, you spend a fortune on gear that ends up gathering dust because it's too complicated to maintain. That feeling that "hydro isn't for me" isn't because you lack skill; it's because standard systems are high-maintenance divas.

The Autopot 2 Pot System wipes the slate clean. It removes the complexity by using physics (gravity) instead of electronics. By following a clear, phase-based path, you eliminate the risk of mechanical failure. It’s a fail-safe method that guides you from setup to harvest with zero stress.

Phase 1: Preparing the ground

Before you even connect a tube, you need to prepare your environment and your medium. The key to Autopot success is the substrate mix; unlike standard pots, these need extra aeration because the water comes from the bottom up.

  • Substrate Mix: You must use a 50/50 mix of absorbent substrate (coco coir or soil) and aeration material like Perlite Soil or clay pebbles. This prevents the medium from becoming a soggy mud cake.
  • Tank Elevation: Place your 47L tank at least 15cm (6 inches) above the AQUAvalves. Gravity needs a little help to push the water down the lines.
  • Cleaning: Ensure the tank is free of plastic debris from manufacturing before filling it.
  • Nutrients: Choose mineral fertilizers that dissolve fully. Thick organic soups can clog the lines (unless specifically designed for systems).

Phase 2: Setting up the product

Now that your materials are ready, let’s assemble the hardware. It’s like LEGO for growers—simple and satisfying.

  1. Valve Setup: Take the AQUAvalve5 and connect it to the 6mm pipe. This yellow-and-black device is the brain of the operation.
  2. Tray Assembly: Place the square trays in your Indoor grow tent kit or outdoor spot. Insert the AQUAvalve onto the T-section inside the tray.
  3. Root Control: Place the copper-colored Root Control Disc (gold face down) or Marix disc at the bottom of the tray (outside the pot) and the other disc inside the pot at the bottom. This stops roots from chasing the valve.
  4. Piping: Connect the 6mm pipes from the trays to the 47L tank using the provided grommets and filters.
  5. Pot Filling: Fill your 15L pots with your 50/50 mix and transplant your seedlings or clones.

Phase 3: Use / growing step by step

This is where the magic happens. The system handles the daily grind, but you need to manage the start.

  1. Hand Watering (Days 1-10): Do NOT turn the tank on yet. Water the pots from the top by hand for the first 7-10 days. The roots need to establish and reach the bottom of the pot first.
  2. System Activation: Once plants are established, fill the 47L tank with water and Cannabis fertilizers. Check pH. Open the tap.
  3. The Flood: Watch the trays fill to 20mm. The valve will shut off automatically.
  4. The Dry Cycle: The valve will not reopen until the plants have drunk all the water in the tray. This wet/dry cycle oxygenates the roots.
  5. Monitoring: Check the tank level weekly. Refill when it gets to 1/3 empty.
  6. Adjustments: As plants get bigger during flowering, they will drink faster. The system self-adjusts to this demand.
  7. What to avoid: Never put an air stone in the tank (it raises pH) and don't let the tank run completely dry, or sediment might enter the lines.

Phase 4: Closing, maintenance and learnings

After you’ve harvested those dense, heavy buds, it’s time to reset. The beauty of the Autopot is its durability; with basic care, it lasts for years.

Disconnect the tank and flush the lines with warm water to remove salt buildup. Scrub the AQUAvalves with a toothbrush to ensure the silicon floats move freely. If you used clay pebbles, you can wash and reuse them, but fresh perlite is recommended for the next run. Note down how much water your plants consumed during peak flowering—it’s usually impressive!

Advantages of following this flow instead of improvising

  • Consistency: Your plants never suffer from drought stress or overwatering; the valve is more precise than a human.
  • Silence: No humming pumps to annoy you or alert guests.
  • Freedom: You can leave for a weekend (or a week) without hiring a plant-sitter.
  • Explosive Growth: The constant access to nutrient solution often results in larger yields compared to hand-watering soil.
  • Scalability: Want more plants? Just buy an extension kit and tee it into the existing line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use organic nutrients with Autopot?

Yes, but be careful. Thick, molasses-based organics can clog the thin 6mm tubes. It is better to use mineral nutrients or organics specifically filtered for hydroponic systems. If you use organics, flush the lines with water once a week.

Why do I need to water by hand at the beginning?

The Autopot feeds from the bottom. If the roots haven't reached the bottom of the pot yet, they won't access the water in the tray. The initial top-watering encourages the roots to grow downwards to find the moisture.

Does the water in the tank go bad?

Since the water is stagnant (no pump), it's best to use a small circulation wave maker if you have a large tank, but for this 47L tank, the plants usually drink it fast enough. Just keep the lid on tight to prevent light from entering and causing algae growth.

What happens if the power goes out?

Absolutely nothing! That's the best part. Gravity doesn't need electricity. Your plants will continue to be fed and watered as if nothing happened.

Personal Experience of Pevgrow’s CEO (Alan)

I'll be honest, I was skeptical about "passive" systems at first. I used to love my high-tech gadgets. But the first time I set up an Autopot for a summer run, everything changed. I organized my phases exactly as described: I spent extra time washing my clay pebbles and mixing the perlite perfectly (Phase 1 is crucial!). I left the girls alone for a 5-day trip during peak bloom, terrified I'd come back to dead plants.

Instead, I came back to a jungle. The tank was half empty, and the buds had swollen significantly. The mistake I made early on was turning the system on too early—the plants got lazy roots. Now, I strictly wait those 10 days of hand watering, and the root explosion is visible. It’s my go-to system when I want high yields but simply don't have the time to hover over the garden every day.
